Description

Gynecomastia is a common problem among the adolescents. About 60-70 percent of teenage males tend to suffer from Gynecomastia. When males develop through puberty, their body tends to produce slightly higher amounts of female hormone called estrogen. Estrogens are female hormones that gives women, the female body characteristics like breasts and other bodily and physiological features. Some boys will have a higher than usual level of these estrogens and this naturally results in growth of their breast tissue. So dolescent gynecomastia is caused by a change in the balance of hormones during puberty for most boys between the ages of 12 and 14 years old. Gynecomastia can also be caused by using recreational drugs such as marijuana. Very rarely, gynecomastia can be caused by a tumour or a serious disease of the liver or kidneys. Usually, gynecomastia among adolescent resolves by itself with time. If not, treatment with medications or surgery is possible. Most of the doctors do not recommend gynecomastia treatment as it takes place due to puberty. Instead, the physician may keep close tabs and keep track of the condition for several months. If you think that you have gynecomastia, ask your health care provider or school nurse to check it out.In general cases, pubertal gynecomastia resolves during that time. However, treatments comprising of appropriate medication and dosage along with well-scheduled surgery is available for boys suffering from severe gynecomastia causing serious problems and embarrassment.
