La description

Bariatric or obesity surgery is the specialty of this very highly qualified and experienced Manchester based Surgeon. He is the leading bariatric surgeon in the North of England. The surgeon performs all types of bariatric surgical procedures at well-known private hospitals including The Alexandra Hospital at Cheadle in Cheshire and The Highfield Hospital at Rochdale in Lancashire. He performs all types of primary Bariatric surgical procedures like Sleeve Gastrectomy, Gastric Bypass, Gastric Banding and One anastomosis or Omega loop gastric bypass and also Revisional Bariatric surgery such as Removal of gastric band and conversion to either gastric sleeve or bypass.

At the initial consultation Mr Senapati will take thorough history including the impact of obesity on the total health of the patient. As we know obesity can affect any organ of the body from head to toe and the common diseases associated with obesity are Type 2 diabetes, Sleep Apnoea, Backache, arthritis of various joints, Polycystic Ovary syndrome, Oesophageal reflux, High Cholesterol, Hypertension, Metabolic Syndrome, Depression, Leg Oedema, Leg ulcers, Breathlessness on walking short distances and poor quality of life. Evidence suggests that Obesity not only impacts on quality of life but also has an effect on longevity. Literature suggests that one may loose upto 3-5 years if Body mass Index or (BMI) is more than 30, upto 5-7 years if BMI more than 40 also known as Morbid Obesity and upto 13 years if BMI is more than 50, also known as Super Obesity. Current Evidence suggests that Bariatric surgery will either cure or improve many of these associated diseases.

He listens very carefully patients dietary habits, patients behaviour and relation to various types of food before deciding the appropriate type of weight loss surgery, what is known as patient selection. This is a very delicate decision and is done with scientific and systematic approach in which the patient is the decision maker, who is  well informed with adequate and relevant information following the consultation. The patients will also have consultation with his team of Specialist Bariatric Nurses, Dieticians.
