The London Hand and Wrist Unit (LHWU) has brought together world class surgeons and experiences therapists at five of the Capitals leading private hospitals, The Wellington, The London Bridge, The Lister and The Portland Hospitals. The LHWU is recognised international as providing expertise and high quality care for all patients, adults and children alike with conditions affecting the upper limb. The Team The LHWU is privileged to work with a growing number of eminent Consultant Orthopaedic and Plastic Hand Surgeons. Collectively the LHWU group of consultant have expertise in the medical and surgical management of all conditions and injuries affecting the hand and wrist. The Hand Therapy team is comprised of highly experienced Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists at a Senior or Clinical Specialist level. The Hand Therapists share the skills of both professions in addition to their extended role as wound care nurse and plaster technician. Collectively the skills and knowledge possessed by the hand therapist ensure holistic care from initial assessment through to discharge. Conditions regularly seen at the LHWU The LHWU manages both acute trauma as well as acquired conditions affecting the hand and wrist. Conditions regularly managed at the LHWU include: • Trauma to tendons, nerves and other soft tissues • Fractures and joint injuries • Dupuytren’s Disease • Carpal tunnel syndrome and other peripheral nerve problems • Tendopathies including tendonitis and tenosynovitits • Ganglions and tumours • Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis • Congenital anomalies • Wrist conditions • Burns and hypertrophic and keloid scar • Work and leisure related condition Therapy Services at the LHWU Whatever the condition, the Hand Therapists at the LHWU have the skills, knowledge and resources to holistically manage the condition from initial assessment through to discharge, achieving of optional rehabilitation outcomes.
