House magazine Congratulate Austin Brewer for being a successful practitioner for 10 years. We find out how the industry has evolved and what we should be looking out for.

Ok so we’ve all heard the word B*t*x used, whether it’s when reading the paper with your morning coffee (another celeb, another disaster?!), in a glossy on your lunch break or by overhearing the women in the changing room next to you. But how much do you really know? did you know for instance that it has been used medically since the 70’s? or that it can be used for people who suffer with excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis)? 

A number of years ago any treatment like this was taboo, nobody spoke of it and would certainly never admit to having any sort of treatment to eradicate their unwanted lines and wrinkles. Now, however, it has become much more widely available and almost the norm! this does of course present it’s own problems, people are becoming too relaxed about who they let near their face. After speaking to numerous people over the years, I must admit I’ve heard from both sides of the fence. Time I thought, to get some facts and who better to ask than Dorset’s only IHAS registered practitioner Austin Brewer.

So, Austin congratulations on 10 years as a successful practitioner

How have you seen the industry evolve in the last 10 years?

ab: It has changed dramatically, but it’s only recently that things are starting to really improve in regard to regulation of the industry, I hear far too many horror stories from clients that are coming to me every week about sub standard treatments, sometimes by inadequately trained clinicians in my area and also up and down the country.

What’s the best advice that you could give someone?

ab: To be honest there is so much information, the best piece of advice I could give would be to book a consultation with me, it’s free! Your face is important to you, you probably spend hundreds on it each year, but how many of you have ever sat down and discussed exactly how you should be treating your skin and what would work for you. It amazes me that we don’t do this, we either use products because our friends or family use them or believe that because it’s expensive it has to work, this is not the case, if it’s not right for your skin type it could damage your skin. Nearly all of the clients who come for a free consultation with me, end up amazed that the skin care regime they change to, in most cases is cheaper than the one they had before! and they are finally getting the results that they want to see.
